The Justizvollzugsanstalt Witzwil executes sentences and measures on 184 adult men in open penal execution as well as in administrative detention under foreign law. The admitted persons are guided and promoted in various professions in agriculture, trade and supply according to work-agogic principles. In penal execution, around 140 employees work consistently towards the goal of socialization and reduction of recidivism of the prisoners. Production goals and execution goals do not compete, but rather complement each other.

Your tasks

The security service performs security, supervision and intervention tasks every day during 24 hours in 3-shift operation. This includes in particular:

• Responsible for the security of the staff, the admitted persons, the visitors and for the protection of the public
• Responsible for the professional and proper execution of person, presence, property and narcotic controls
• Receiving and processing telephone calls
• Knowledge of procedures in emergencies and crisis situations and accompanying the admitted persons during transfers
• Monitoring and controlling the security systems and administrative work
• Creating reports as well as documenting work processes and logging events
• Interdisciplinary cooperation with other departments
• On a rotational basis, you perform weekend and on-call duties

Your profile

• You have an unblemished reputation and a completed vocational training with a federal certificate of proficiency (eidg. Fähigkeitszeugnis) in a manual, technical, social or commercial direction
• Preferably, you bring professional experience in the field of security (penal execution, blue-light organizations, army) and basic knowledge in self-protection
• Working with admitted persons, the majority of whom are from other cultural backgrounds, is a challenge and an incentive for you at the same time
• As a resilient, stable, capable of criticism and vigilant personality, you act calmly, deliberately, proportionately and goal-oriented even in delicate situations
• You enjoy working in a team and are interested and open towards new things
• You can express yourself stylistically confidently in speech and writing and have good digital skills
• Oral communication in the official languages German and French is easy for you. Preferably, you have another foreign language
• You possess a CH driving license of cat. B and are mobile

About the Amt für Justizvollzug

The Amt für Justizvollzug (AJV) is responsible for the open and closed execution of sentences and measures for adults and juveniles with around 1000 employees within the Sicherheitsdirektion of the Canton of Bern (SID). To fulfill this task, the office has four concordat penal institutions, four regional prisons, the detention station at the Inselspital, the detention management center as well as the probation and execution services at its disposal.
