To strengthen its team, the Schweizerischer Freibergerverband (SFV) is looking for a

Head of the Studbook – 80–100 %

If you love horses and want to contribute to the preservation and further development of the Freiberger breed, then this position is just right for you!

Your function

In this central function for Freiberger breeding, you will hold responsibility for the SFV studbook and coordinate all activities associated with it. In addition, you will coordinate and lead the studbook team and serve as the contact person for technical questions regarding breeding and studbook management.

Your main tasks

• Management, organization, and coordination of the studbook activities;
• Administration and evaluation of studbook data;
• Annual planning of breeding-relevant dates and deadlines;
• Coordination and leadership of the studbook employees as well as assignment and monitoring of their tasks;
• Participation in ongoing data entry activities;
• Monitoring the implementation of the breeding program, the studbook regulations, as well as the legal requirements and specifications of the federal authorities in the field of breeding;
• Organization and support of the most important breeding events, especially foal shows, field tests, the National Stallion Selection, and the station test;
• Coordination of the activities of the judges and show secretaries as well as participation in their training and further education;
• Supervision of assessments, pedigree controls, identification and registration procedures, as well as the issuance and management of horse passports;
• Administration, control, analysis, and evaluation of breeding and genealogical data;
• Support and further development of the EquiFM database as well as the digital instruments of the studbook;
• Information and advice for breeders, horse breeding cooperatives, judges, and other partners of the SFV;
• Cooperation with the various departments, bodies, commissions, authorities, as well as national and international partners of the association.

Your profile

• Higher or vocational education in the field of agronomy, animal sciences, animal breeding, equine sciences or a related field, or an education considered equivalent and professional experience;
• Good knowledge of genetics, selection, reproduction, and animal breeding with reference to horse breeding, as well as a good understanding of how a breeding program functions;
• Very good IT skills, especially in handling and managing databases;
• Very good skills in the analysis of genealogical data;
• German or French native speaker with very good oral and written skills in the respective other language; bilingualism is a great advantage;
• Strong interest in horse breeding and ideally knowledge of the Freiberger horse, its breeding, and its environment;
• Excellent organizational skills as well as the ability to work independently;
• Careful way of working, high sense of responsibility, and enjoyment of contact with people;
• Availability, dynamism, and flexibility, especially during the most important breeding events and activities.
