WHAT YOU CAN EVOLVE ## We are looking for a process automation engineer (Java / Spring Boot) who wants to build real systems - but without spending ten hours a day writing the same repetitive CRUD code. In this role, architecture is the process: you model executable workflows in BPMN 2.0, CMMN and DMN, execute them on a process engine such as Camunda, Flowable or UiPath Maestro, and support them with clean and well-tested Java and Spring Boot services. You take charge of solution delivery by implementing the process models and the underlying service tasks, integrating them into the existing IT landscape via REST APIs and message-based integrations, and optimizing the engine for performance and scale in production. Working closely with business and IT stakeholders, you transform complex real-world processes into robust and executable models that actually work. Your work covers both classical process orchestration on a workflow engine and the introduction of modern hyperautomation and agentic automation concepts. You have a direct influence on how we build automation - by choosing engines and models, defining reusable building blocks and maintaining the platform clean as it evolves to meet business requirements. HOW TO SUCCEED ## Qualifications • You hold a successful degree in computer science, business informatics, data science or a comparable field with a relevant specialization. Or have completed an apprenticeship in the IT sector. Who you are • You possess an agile mindset with strong communication skills, a customer orientation and confidence in face-to-face interactions • Capable of writing readable, testable and maintainable code following *clean code* principles • You enjoy analytical tasks, including process and data analysis • You are motivated by system modeling and the orchestration of how elements come together, not just by writing application code all day • Strong team player with excellent presentation and collaboration skills • Proficiency in English and C1 level in German Professional experience • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience Key technical skills • Proficiency in Java, particularly with Spring Boot • Hands-on experience with a workflow/process engine such as Camunda, Flowable or UiPath Maestro - building and executing executable processes, not just diagrams • Practical mastery of standard modeling notations - BPMN 2.0, CMMN 1.1 and DMN 1.3 • Comfortable with long-running process orchestration: service tasks, message and signal events, timers and decision tables • Experience with JUnit testing and simulation frameworks • Solid knowledge of DBMS, SQL, JPA, ORM • Competent in build automation with Maven or Gradle • Mastery of version control systems (e.g., Git) • Good understanding of RESTful web services and working with JSON/XML Additional skills (senior level - desirable for junior/professional) • Mastery of Docker • Experience with DevOps tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, ArgoCD, Kustomize, Octopus, etc.) • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes • Knowledge of OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect (OIDC) • Familiarity with Agile methodologies (SCRUM, Kanban, SAFe, etc.) • Knowledge of AI agents and associated concepts Assets • Experience with a second process engine or vendor platform (e.g., Camunda, Flowable, Appway, UiPath, IBM BAW, Appian) - and ideally a vendor certification in one or more of them • In-depth knowledge of process modeling and architecture notations (advanced BPMN models, UML, event-driven design and microservices) • Experience in frontend development, ideally with React OPPORTUNITY PROVIDER - WHAT MAKES ADESSO SPECIAL ## Our promise: you will feel at home with us!
