Start of position: As of 1 January 2027 or by arrangement Work location: Bern For the Mittelschul- und Berufsbildungsamt of the Bildungs- und Kulturdirektion, we are looking for an enterprising, experienced, and strong leadership person. The Mittelschul- und Berufsbildungsamt creates optimal framework conditions for holistic education. You will lead the office professionally and personally and develop sustainable, broadly supported solutions for vocational education and secondary school education. In doing so, you will convince through political intuition, strong communication skills, and the ability to work reliably with diverse stakeholder groups and to network effectively. Your tasks As Head, you will lead the Mittelschul- und Berufsbildungsamt with around 350 employees. You will lead ten directly subordinate managers and bear overall responsibility for the strategic, organizational, and personal orientation of the office. You will support and advise the Bildungs- und Kulturdirektor as well as the Generalsekretärin on educational policy, strategic, and professional issues. In this demanding and versatile function, you will align the educational offerings with the needs of society, the working world, and subsequent educational levels. You will continuously develop the strategy in the areas of secondary level II, higher vocational education, continuing education, and career counseling, and accompany central strategic projects. You will lead the office in an appreciative and binding manner, strengthen cooperation within the office as well as with external partners, and create the prerequisites for effective, goal- and solution-oriented task fulfillment. As a member of the Geschäftsleitung of the Bildungs- und Kulturdirektion, you will actively shape the strategic further development of the Direktion. Your profile You have a university degree as well as leadership training and bring several years of leadership experience. You have a pronounced intuition for educational policy issues and political processes. Even in demanding situations, you maintain an overview, act deliberately, and remain resilient. You know the Bernese educational landscape, have led complex organizations, and ideally bring experience in public administration. A high level of service awareness, loyalty, and reliable cooperation with different stakeholder groups characterize your professional self-image. You are proficient in one of the two official languages (German or French) in a stylistically confident manner and have very good knowledge of the other (at least level B2).
