(Co-)Head of «Construction and Maintenance of Huts» (voluntary)

The Uto section of the Swiss Alpine Club SAC was founded in 1863, is based in Zürich and with almost 13'000 members is the section with the most members of the Swiss Alpine Club. The section is led by a voluntary board and lives from the voluntary commitment of its members in commissions, on tours and in course activities. The section owns seven huts in the cantons of Graubünden, Tessin, Uri and Wallis. The «Construction and Maintenance of Huts» department is part of the Hut Commission of the section and ensures the technical operation of the seven Uto huts. It includes, in addition to the management, one voluntary construction manager per hut. These take on the role of client representation, ensure the technical maintenance of the huts and coordinate all maintenance, renewal and renovation projects for the huts. We are looking for a head of the «Construction and Maintenance of Huts» department to lead and coordinate the team of construction managers. Due to the extensive range of tasks, a division of the function into a co-management is explicitly welcome. Main tasks • Management of the «Construction and Maintenance of Huts» department and the construction managers of the individual huts • Advising the board, the head of the hut department and the hut administrators on technical questions • Monitoring the technical condition of the seven Uto huts and ensuring maintenance, repair and renovation measures • Participation in building commissions for larger renovation and construction projects • Creation of the annual budget for planned maintenance, renewal and renovation work • Processing of damage cases with insurance companies • Ensuring adequate cost control for all construction, maintenance and renovation work • Creating and submitting subsidy applications in cooperation with the construction manager • Contact person of the section towards the SAC hut commission of the central association Requirements • Education and professional experience in the construction industry (e.g. as an architect, construction manager or in a comparable function) • Strong interest in the technical infrastructure and operation of huts in the alpine and high-alpine region • Interest in voluntary work in a SAC section and in cooperation in club structures and committees • Independent and reliable way of working • Good communication and coordination skills • Assertiveness and enjoyment of working with different stakeholder groups • Availability on weekdays is also required For more information, please contact: Erich Suter (Co-Head of Hut Department), erich.suter@sac-uto.ch, Tel. 079 448 26 49 Marcel Schilde (Co-Head of Hut Department), marcel.schilde@sac-uto.ch, Tel. 079 236 98 26 Zürich Voluntary Published on 11.07.2026
