The Social Welfare Office of the Canton of Schaffhausen fulfills higher-level tasks in the areas of social welfare and alimony assistance, is a compensation authority in victim support, and is responsible for the approval, financing, and supervision of institutions for adults with disabilities. Additionally, the Social Welfare Office is responsible for the approval of stationary child and youth facilities and for the foster child system. The department also performs tasks related to the accommodation, support, integration promotion, and material support of persons from the asylum and refugee sector. Since January 1, 2026, the cantonal Social Welfare Office has been responsible for the foster child system in the Canton of Schaffhausen. The task was previously located at the Children's and Adult Protection Authority. The current specialist in charge of the foster child system (40%) is moving to the cantonal Social Welfare Office and is looking forward to a job partner immediately or by agreement.
