Furthermore, it takes measures for crime prevention and combatting and provides official and enforcement assistance to administrative and judicial authorities. Das Generalsekretariat (GS) of the directorate employs around 100 employees, consists of 8 business areas and serves as the staff body for the political and operational management support of the Sicherheitsdirektor. Das Amt für Bevölkerungsdienste (ABEV) offers its services at 7 locations in the Canton Bern. Around 280 employees are competent contact persons for the population regarding topics such as migration, travel documents, civil status and naturalization. Das Amt für Bevölkerungsschutz, Sport und Militär (BSM) provides various services in the areas of civil protection, sport and military with its around 100 employees (plus around 11'000 Milizangehörigen). In the Strassenverkehrs- und Schifffahrtsamt (SVSA) (approx. 370 employees), the customer is partner. Together it contributes to safe, smooth and environmentally friendly traffic on roads and waterways. In the Amt für Justizvollzug (AJV), around 1000 employees are deployed for public safety and for the resocialization of convicted persons.
