Technology Exploration & Innovation Manager

Why does this position exist?

The Technology Exploration & Innovation Manager strengthens the technology development pipeline for Reduced Risk Products by researching emerging technologies, experimenting with new ideas, and developing innovative concepts. The role consists of transforming promising opportunities into structured projects with rigorous planning and alignment with the JTI governance process, while applying in-depth knowledge of consumer electronics and coordinating multi-site development teams as well as external technology developers.

What will you do concretely?

• Research and evaluate emerging technologies and identify new applications for mature technologies by adopting a consumer-centric approach
• Share technological knowledge within Research & Development and non-Research & Development functions to support collaboration and decision-making
• Execute technology exploration projects via appropriate phase management in accordance with the Research & Development governance process
• Examine the theoretical potential of the technology, the benefits for the consumer or the business, technical feasibility, resources, budget, investment, timelines, and competitor activity
• Evaluate technological ideas against the JT Group technological strategy, including risk reduction, taste, safety, reliability, social acceptability, and manufacturability
• Establish and maintain relationships with third-party development partners, consultants, industry associations, external laboratories, and universities
• Support the RRP Technology Exploration & Innovation Director in developing key strategic documents that guide R&D exploration activities
• Recruit, motivate, and guide the professional development of direct and indirect team members, as applicable
• Manage additional tasks and projects at the request of the manager

Who are we looking for?

• Advanced degree in a related scientific discipline, preferably in physics or engineering, or equivalent experience
• At least eight years of experience in a Research & Development environment in electronics, software, mechanics, or biotechnology
• Experience with aerosol-generating products, including heated tobacco products or e-cigarettes, and/or in the consumer electronics industry is strongly desired
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, including presentation; other languages are a plus
• Knowledge and experience in electrical and/or mechanical engineering, technology development, product development, and project management
• Leadership capabilities and experience in coordinating multi-site development teams
• Ability to negotiate technical requirements and development frameworks with external technology developers
• Collaborative, consumer-centric, and future-oriented approach, with a sense of responsibility, openness to challenge, and responsible decision-making
