Museum Director

The Naturmuseum Thurgau in Frauenfeld is the natural archive of the canton of Thurgau. For almost 170 years, it has been collecting, documenting, researching, and conveying the nature and natural history of the region and Switzerland. With its diverse activities, the museum enables a broad audience to engage with current nature and environmental topics in a well-founded and vivid manner. The house occupies a firm place in Thurgau's cultural life as well as in the Swiss museum landscape. As of 1 December 2026 or by agreement, we are looking for a committed and design-friendly Your tasks You are responsible for the content, personnel, financial, and administrative management of the museum as well as the strategic orientation of its collections, exhibitions, educational offerings, and scientific activities. You will further develop the house as a knowledge and educational institution and as a place of cultural and social exchange. With a clear idea, you will convey complex interactions between nature, environment, and society to a broad audience in a vivid, exciting, and accessible way. To achieve your goals, you will actively cultivate cooperation with other museums and cultural actors. You will convincingly and committedly represent the museum to the public, the cantonal administration, and the political bodies. Your profile You have a university degree in bio-, environmental-, or geosciences or in another natural scientific discipline and have experience in a museum or a comparable institution, ideally in a management position with the corresponding management and financial competencies. You understand the collection as the foundation of the museum and are familiar with the challenges of its preservation, further development, and scientific processing. You set realistic goals for yourself and your employees and appreciate cooperation with a committed team that is used to working independently and responsibly. You will convince your colleagues with decision-making joy and a cooperative, appreciative, and motivating leadership style. You have a good understanding of the concerns of different stakeholder groups from the public, administration, and politics and recognize their importance for the strategic development of the museum. You are open and curious about social developments and their impact on the museum landscape. Your oral and written expression in German is stylistically secure; knowledge of another national language is an advantage.
