Director of the Bibliothèque cantonale et universitaire - Lausanne (BCUL)

Job Description ##

Within the Direction générale de la culture, you will assume the leadership of the Bibliothèque cantonale et universitaire de Lausanne (BCUL), one of the largest libraries in Switzerland. Spread across several sites and supported by more than 225 employees, the BCUL deploys its activities in service of the university community and the entire population.

In a context marked by rapid changes in pedagogical, scientific, and informational practices, you will carry the strategic vision of the institution and lead its transformation. You will ensure the reinforcement of its relevance, attractiveness, and influence, while guaranteeing the excellence of its services.

Through inspiring and unifying leadership, you will mobilize teams around common objectives, accompany change, and maintain relationships of trust with authorities, institutional partners, and various stakeholders.

Responsibilities ##

• Ensure the management of the BCUL and human resources management.
• Define the strategy in order to prepare and plan the evolution of the BCUL in phase with technological, scientific, and societal developments.
• Develop and implement policies for the development, conservation, study, and enhancement of scientific, heritage, and general public collections.
• Develop and implement the development of services intended for the public and the network of Vaud libraries.
• Represent the BCUL before political authorities, the Université de Lausanne, the HEP Vaud, other institutions of the DGES, the DGEO, the DGEP, as well as local, regional, national, and international partners.

Qualifications ##

• Master's in information documentation or an equivalent degree.
• Postgraduate diploma in management and/or project management.
• Extensive previous experience in a position with similar responsibilities, in the direction of a library or a large-scale cultural institution.
• Proven achievements in terms of strategic management and change management.
• Proven expertise in the field of library science.
• Strong interest in new technologies.
• Proficiency in German and English.
• Global and strategic vision, excellent analytical, synthesis, and writing skills, strong decision-making capacity, sense of responsibility, and public service ethics.
• Recognized leadership, excellent communication, negotiation, and representation skills.
