Automation Engineer

Essential responsibilities

• Develop PLC and HMI software for new machines and retrofit projects.
• Design modular, robust, and reusable software architectures.
• Maintain a common software architecture across different machine ranges.
• Develop and maintain standardized software libraries.
• Reduce technical debt of existing software by improving its readability, modularity, and maintainability.
• Modernize the control systems of installed machines.
• Diagnose and resolve software problems reported by customers.
• Participate in commissioning (FAT/SAT) and technical interventions; the position may require occasional travel in Switzerland and abroad.
• Collaborate with R&D, production, and sales teams.
• Maintain complete technical documentation (PLC, HMI, software architecture, troubleshooting and commissioning procedures).
• Participate in the continuous improvement of the company's automation standards.
• Ensure software version management (versioning) and traceability of modifications.
• Contribute to the development of new generations of machines.

Required technical skills

• Mastery of PLC programming (Beckhoff TwinCAT 3, CODESYS or equivalent environment).
• Development of operator interfaces under TwinCAT 3 HMI (TE2000).
• Knowledge of industrial networks and protocols (Profinet, Modbus TCP, OPC UA, RS-232, etc.).
• Knowledge of industrial application development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, Vue.js, Electron or equivalent technologies).
• Reading of electrical diagrams.
• Reading of mechanical plans.
• Notions of motion control, drives, and industrial instrumentation an asset.
• Mastery of office tools.
