In doing so, you coordinate demanding tasks, take responsibility for central topics, and contribute to the smooth operation and further development of the Staatsanwaltschaft through your independent way of working. Who we are The Staatsanwaltschaft is responsible for the enforcement of the state's right to prosecute. It leads the preliminary proceedings, prosecutes crimes within the framework of investigations, files charges if necessary, and represents these charges in court. In minor cases, it issues a penal order. Organizationally, the Staatsanwaltschaft of the Canton Bern consists of the Generalstaatsanwaltschaft, three Staatsanwaltschaften for the entire cantonal territory (one Staatsanwaltschaft for the prosecution of economic crimes, one Staatsanwaltschaft for special tasks, and one Staatsanwaltschaft for juvenile criminal matters), as well as four regional Staatsanwaltschaften (Berner Jura-Seeland, Emmental-Oberaargau, Bern-Mittelland, and Oberland).
