Laboratory Technician in Biology at 50% The University of Neuchâtel is advertising a 50% Laboratory Technician in Biology position to be filled within the Institute of Biology of the Functional Ecology Laboratory (LEF), attached to the Faculty of Sciences. Activities As a laboratory technician, you are expected to participate in the research activities of the Functional Ecology Laboratory, under the direction of Prof. Sergio Rasmann. You ensure the daily management of the laboratory, including the organization of workspaces, the management of products, consumables and samples as well as the maintenance and basic maintenance of laboratory machines and instruments. You also contribute to the maintenance and proper functioning of phytotrons and other experimental infrastructures, notably the greenhouse and animal facility. You perform soil analyses as well as chemical analyses of plants. You contribute to ecometabolomic studies, including sample preparation, extraction of chemical compounds as well as preparation and analysis of samples by HPLC-MS and/or GC-MS. You support students, doctoral students and other laboratory members in their research projects, in particular for the preparation and monitoring of laboratory, phytotron and field experiments. You participate in the setup and monitoring of field experiments aimed at studying the effects of biodiversity and climate change in alpine environments. You also collaborate on the general activities of the Institute of Biology, notably for monitoring safety in laboratories, managing equipment, organizing technical experiments and coordinating with concerned services. Requirements With a federal certificate of competence as a laboratory technician or an equivalent title, you have the ability to work autonomously and organize your activities according to priorities. You have a sense of responsibility, demonstrate rigor, reactivity and a good team spirit. You ideally have confirmed experience in the techniques required for the position, notably soil analyses, preparation and analysis of plant samples, chemical analyses of plants as well as the use or preparation of samples for analytical instruments such as HPLC-MS and/or GC-MS. Experience in laboratory management, maintenance of scientific equipment, work in phytotrons and support for field experiments is a significant asset. Experience or interest in functional ecology, ecometabolomics, plant-environment interactions is desirable. You are motivated to learn new laboratory and field techniques and have a marked interest in science and technology. With good analytical and organizational skills, you master standard Office software, notably Excel and Word and have good knowledge of French and English. You are open to others and are at ease in interactions with all publics.
