Are you interested in biology, chemistry and exciting experiments? Do you want to know how living beings function and conduct research yourself in the laboratory? Then the training as a Laboratory Technician EFZ with a specialization in biology is exactly right for you. At the Institut für Zellbiologie of the Universität Bern, you will work in a modern research laboratory and become part of an international team. You will learn how scientific research works and support projects that deal with the fundamental mechanisms of life. In doing so, you will investigate a wide variety of organisms: from worms to fascinating single-celled organisms that you have probably never heard of, to bacteria. Using modern microscopes and molecular biological methods, you will research how cells are structured, how they communicate with each other, and how they reproduce. This is what your everyday life looks like: Research does not only consist of spectacular experiments. For everything to work in the laboratory, people are needed who work carefully and keep an overview. During your apprenticeship, you will therefore get to know both modern molecular biological methods and the basics of daily laboratory work. You will prepare solutions and culture media, cultivate cells and microorganisms, sterilize material, work with microscopes and support scientific projects. With increasing experience, you will take on more and more responsibility and carry out more demanding experiments independently.
