Electronics Technician / Electrical Engineer At the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the University of Zurich, we are looking for a specialist in the field of electronics (100% or by arrangement) with a focus on development, commissioning, and optimization of analog/digital measuring systems and controls for application in the research sector, starting September 1, 2026, or by arrangement. We offer a modern workshop infrastructure, which is to be constantly further developed by the position holder. The institute is located at Campus Irchel. Electronics Technician / Electrical Engineer Tasks Development & Construction (65 %) Complete product development from the idea to series production: concept, circuit design, simulation (e.g., LTSpice), PCB layout, prototype construction, testing, and commissioning of analog and digital measuring devices, amplifiers, as well as controls for motors and fluid systems. Design and optimization of analog/digital circuits, including signal conditioning (filter, amplification, noise reduction) and interfaces (e.g., SPI, I2C, UART). Embedded software development: programming of microcontrollers (C, C++, ) for data acquisition, signal processing, and control tasks. Integration of sensors and A/D-/D/A converters: selection, connection, and optimization of signal quality from acquisition to digital processing. Technical Consulting & Support (20 %) Technical advice for internal and external partners regarding the selection, installation, and commissioning of measuring apparatus, laboratory equipment, and testing tools. Setup and optimization of test and measurement setups, including error analysis and rectification at the module and system level. Training and documentation: creation of instructions, specifications, and project documentation for users and development teams. Support of two photon microscopes: technical maintenance, error analysis, and support for use in research and development purposes. Repair & Maintenance (15 %) Diagnosis and repair of existing installations, prototypes, and series devices, including remote error diagnosis and spare parts management. Profile You are a highly motivated, well-organized, and communicative team player. Technical know-how: Sound experience in circuit design (analog/digital) and PCB layout (e.g., KiCad, Altium, OrCAD). Knowledge in DSP signal processing (e.g., filter, FFT) and interface programming (e.g., SPI, I2C, UART). Experience in handling modern measurement and testing technology: Basic laboratory equipment: multimeter, digital oscilloscopes (DSO), function generator, programmable power supplies, electronic loads Special measuring devices for signal analysis: spectrum analyzer, logic analyzer, THD meter, EMC test equipment. Carrying out measurements for signal quality, interference analysis, and EMC testing with the above-mentioned devices. Programming: proficient knowledge in C/C++ (Embedded, microcontroller) and for data analysis and control tasks. Project management: independent planning and control of development projects: from component procurement to documentation. Collaboration: interdisciplinary coordination with mechanical workshops, software teams, and external partners.
