Risk Manager / Safety Officer (m/f/d) 80-100%

In this key role, you will actively shape, develop, and ensure that risks are identified, assessed, and effectively managed at Eawag. You will combine strategic risk management with operational safety responsibility and work closely with the directorate, management, and subject-matter and safety specialists.
Risk Management (40 - 50%)

• You coordinate and further develop the institute-wide risk management system as well as the associated processes, methods, and instruments and ensure their implementation.
• You advise the directorate and the risk owners on strategic and methodological issues and prepare decision-making bases for the responsible bodies.
• You coordinate the annual risk management process and support the relevant research and support areas in the identification, assessment, and treatment of risks.
• You are responsible for the maintenance and quality assurance of the risk catalog as well as the follow-up of risk measures.
• You coordinate and prepare the annual risk reporting for the directorate and the ETH Council.
• You are the contact person for audits and reviews of risk management and coordinate the necessary documents and statements.
• You further develop information, training, and awareness measures and represent Eawag in relevant specialist committees of the ETH domain.

Operational Safety (40 - 50%)

• You assume operational responsibility for safety coordination at the locations Dübendorf (ZH) and Kastanienbaum (LU) and advise the directorate on safety measures as well as protection goals and safety concepts.
• You coordinate the further development and quality assurance of safety specifications and demand-oriented training for laboratory, field, and experimental activities.
• Within the scope of your responsibility, you are responsible for general occupational safety and health protection as well as hazard assessment, measure planning, and the monitoring of safety-relevant specifications.
• You implement safety-relevant measures in your area of responsibility and involve external specialists if necessary.
• You coordinate and monitor the emergency organization and exercises, support the internal crisis organization in the event of an incident, and ensure the deputy leadership of the crisis management team.
• You participate in the Occupational Health Management team or the responsible steering group and coordinate the interfaces between occupational safety, health protection, and occupational health management.
• You coordinate and accompany audits, reviews, and official inspections and maintain cooperation with authorities, specialist offices, and external safety partners.
• You represent Eawag in safety committees and working groups of the ETH domain.

Your Profile

• Several years of professional experience in risk, safety, or quality management, ideally in a complex research, university, or technically oriented environment.
• Completed university degree or a comparable qualification, ideally with a connection to risk management, safety, natural sciences, technology, or a related field.
• Sound knowledge of risk management, ideally according to ISO 31000, as well as a good understanding of safety and health protection topics.
• Training as an ASGS specialist or ASGS expert
