Shape the Future of Air Monitoring
How can we detect airborne pathogens in real time before they become a risk? In the Innosuisse project RIQAP (Realtime Identification and Quantification of Airborne Pathogens), we are developing a globally novel measurement system for continuous monitoring of airborne pathogens. The goal is a market-oriented demonstrator with a perspective for later commercialisation. A central component is the High-Volume Particle-into-Liquid Sampler (Hi-Vol PILS) developed by us, which efficiently and gently transfers large air volumes into an analysable liquid phase. Become part of an interdisciplinary team and work on a technology with genuine societal impact. You will work hands-on on the further development of an innovative aerosol technology system and directly contribute your ideas to the project.
Your Tasks:
- Further development and optimisation of the Hi-Vol PILS system
- Setup, operation and further development of experiments in the aerosol laboratory
- Execution and evaluation of measurement campaigns
- Analysis of aerosol processes and system behaviour
- Investigation of thermodynamic and fluid mechanical effects
- Collaboration on integration into a complex overall system for pathogen detection
You are curious, experimental and want to work on real research with impact.
You Bring:
- Studies in mechanical engineering, process engineering, environmental engineering, physics or environmental sciences
- Interest in experimental work and measurement technology
- Basic knowledge in: fluid mechanics / thermodynamics
- Experience with aerosol measurement technology (e.g. SMPS, CPC) is an advantage
- Independent, structured working style
- Enjoyment of interdisciplinary collaboration
What Awaits You:
- Participation in a highly innovative research project with direct application perspective
- Modernly equipped aerosol laboratory at FHNW
- Close collaboration with leading partners such as University of Basel and Swiss TPH
- Insight into applied research with spin-off potential
- Dynamic, committed team with plenty of scope for creativity
The position is limited to 1 year.
The uniqueness of FHNW is reflected in the combination of teaching and application-oriented research as well as collaboration with practice. The complementary perspectives enable a differentiated understanding and action in a rapidly changing world. Exchange and collaboration are paramount.
Will you soon be part of our team? We look forward to receiving your application by 14 August 2026.
