It advises the departments and federal offices on all legislative matters and prepares expert opinions. Furthermore, the office exercises supreme supervision in the area of criminal and measure enforcement and maintains the Schweizerische Strafregister. The Fachbereich Straf- und Massnahmenvollzug deals with the implementation of the Federal Act on Federal Benefits for the Enforcement of Sentences and Measures. It handles a wide variety of tasks in cooperation with the cantons, provides construction contributions for new, renovated and extended facilities for the enforcement of sentences and measures for adults, young adults, children and adolescents. It grants operating contributions to educational institutions and measure facilities for young adults based on certain recognition criteria.
