The General Secretariat of the VBS is the actual staff organization of the Department. It supports the Head of Department as a member of the Federal Council as well as in the management of the Department. The GS-VBS develops the political strategy as well as specifications for the administrative units and supports and monitors their implementation. Furthermore, it ensures planning, controlling, and coordination at the Department level in the cross-sectional areas of Personnel, Finance, Law, and IT, but also in security policy or in the area of Space and Environment.
