Research Associate «Integrated landscape management» 80 - 100% (w/m/d) WSL Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research The WSL Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research belongs to the ETH domain with around 600 employees. It deals with the sustainable use and protection of the environment as well as with a responsible handling of natural hazards. The Landscape Dynamics research unit analyzes and assesses long-term changes of the natural resources of the built-up, managed and semi-natural landscape. The Land Use Systems group is looking for a Tenure Track position for a Research Associate «Integrated landscape management» 80 - 100% (w/m/d) Global change with its impacts on climate, ecosystems, economy and population presents major challenges for land use and the provision of the associated services, which can only be addressed through the involvement of various disciplines as well as through close cooperation with stakeholders from practice. The conceptualization of landscapes as multifunctional socio-ecological systems offers a valuable approach for this. The methodological focus of this position lies on the integrative spatial modeling of land use systems and landscapes, and based on that, on the development of foundations for decision support for sustainable landscape management. You develop innovative theoretical and practical concepts, methods and applications with a focus on internationally important research questions and local to national ones; to this end, you draw on relevant expertise from the natural and social sciences at WSL as well as from the international research community, establish internationally recognized research activities for this, and acquire the necessary funds in the national and international environment with internal and external scientific partners and stakeholders. You hold a doctoral degree in geography, landscape ecology, environmental sciences or a similar field. As a landscape researcher with several years of experience focusing on land use systems, you are experienced in integrative spatial modeling and decision support in transdisciplinary processes. You are innovative, motivated, creative and reliable, have a conceptual, inter- and transdisciplinary way of working and enjoy working both independently and in a team. You possess good oral and written English skills and have experience in writing and publishing scientific articles. Good knowledge of German and ideally another national language is also required.
