The Federal Office of Culture (BAK) is the specialist authority for cultural policy fundamental issues, for cultural promotion and for the preservation and communication of cultural values. The Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Building Culture is responsible for museums and collections as well as building culture. The Section Museums and Collections at the Federal Office of Culture (BAK) is responsible for the strategic management and technical accompaniment of the federally owned museums and collections. It develops basics and standards for their operation, documentation and communication and contributes to preserving and making the cultural heritage of the Confederation accessible according to technical and ethical standards. A particular focus lies on provenance research and the systematic processing of the origin of cultural goods in the collections of the Confederation.
