Assistant Professor in Environmental Ethics and Environmental Philosophy

Assistant Professor in Environmental Ethics and Environmental Philosophy Attached to the Institut de géographie et de durabilité (IGD) of the FGSE, this 100% position is to be filled ideally from 1 August 2027. Employment contract for an initial duration of six years, renewable. The person chosen for this position must hold a doctorate in environmental ethics, environmental philosophy, or a related field, and be engaged in the field of environmental humanities. They are expected to develop teaching and research activities in ethics, epistemology, phenomenology, and/or hermeneutics, as well as on the theoretical and methodological foundations of environmental humanities. Their research must contribute to the analysis of the ethical and philosophical dimensions of the ecological crisis, in dialogue with environmental sciences, and focus on the different conceptions of nature, the relations between humans and non-humans, as well as the issues of environmental justice and politics in the era of the Anthropocene. Particular attention will be given to work that questions the foundations of contemporary models of thought and action and contributes to current debates in political ecology and on post-growth trajectories. The recruited person will actively participate in the research of the Institut de géographie et durabilité and the Faculty, as well as in the teaching of the Bachelor in geosciences and environment and the Master in Fondements et pratiques de la durabilité. They will furthermore supervise Bachelor, Master, and doctoral students. They must demonstrate their ability to teach in French from their start of duty or at the latest within two years following their recruitment.
