It advises the departments and federal offices on all legislative business and prepares expert opinions. Furthermore, the office exercises supreme supervision in the field of criminal and custodial measures enforcement and maintains the Swiss Criminal Register. The specialist division for criminal and custodial measures enforcement deals with the implementation of the Federal Act on the benefits of the Confederation for the enforcement of criminal and custodial measures. It handles a wide variety of tasks in cooperation with the cantons, allocates construction contributions for new construction, renovation and expansion of facilities for the enforcement of sentences and measures for adults, young adults, children and adolescents. Based on certain recognition criteria, it grants operational contributions to educational institutions and measure institutions for young adults. In addition, it awards contributions for the Swiss Competence Center for Correctional Services as well as for model projects in criminal and custodial measures enforcement and in youth welfare.
