Gardener 80-100% Zoo Basel, affectionately called «Zolli», is a green oasis in the middle of the city. In its unique park landscape, it houses over 500 animal species from all continents. Managed scientifically, it creates closeness between humans and animals, protects endangered species, and promotes biodiversity. Here, recreation, education, research, and nature conservation combine into a working environment for diverse, meaningful tasks. Gardener 80-100% Your tasks As a trained gardener EFZ, you are responsible, together with the gardening team, for the professional care and design of our extensive park facilities as well as the green animal enclosures. You will independently undertake all arising gardening work and ensure that plants, green spaces, and habitats for animals and visitors are presented in a well-kept and attractive condition at all times. Your versatile tasks include, among other things, the care of the entire park facility, various indoor plantings, and support in the field of tree care. The predominantly maintenance-oriented activity is supplemented by horticultural work, operation of our branched pond system, and a consulting function within the framework of small and large projects. Another component of your activity is the procurement and preparation of animal feed. This includes, seasonally, the organization and distribution of feed as well as its preparation and storage for the various animal species. What you bring You are a trained gardener in garden and landscape construction EFZ and have at least three years of professional experience in the care and design of green spaces. Additionally, you possess a category B driver's license, ideally BE. You enjoy working proactively, are practically minded, and bring joy to a versatile activity outdoors. A careful and professional way of working is as natural to you as a responsible handling of plants, machines, and work materials. You are physically resilient, reliable, and appreciate working both independently and in a team. Sound experience in the field of garden / park maintenance is of great importance for this activity. Likewise, we look forward to applicants who bring an interest in the special plant world and the different requirements of the animal enclosures of a zoo. The handling of machines and equipment for professional garden and green space maintenance is familiar to you. Practical experience in handling domestic or wild animals is also welcome, but not a requirement. You have good German skills in speaking and writing and bring the readiness to repeatedly adjust to new situations in a varied environment.
