In collaboration with the competent services of the Confederation and the Cantons, it elaborates the necessary legal bases, strategies, structures and systems and issues instructions intended for the border control bodies of the Confederation and the Cantons. It also conducts sanctioning proceedings against airlines that violate the obligations dictated by foreign nationals law. Finally, it represents the SEM in national and international bodies.
