Our client is an established Swiss financial institution with an international clientele and activities covering commodities trade finance, wealth management, and treasury. The bank is looking for a pragmatic and business-oriented legal advisor to join its Legal & Compliance function and provide operational legal support across the company. Job Description ##

Position :

Reporting to the Head of Legal & Compliance, you will provide daily legal advice across the bank, helping the company navigate legal and regulatory issues while adopting a practical and solution-oriented approach. You will work closely with colleagues across the company, particularly in commodities trade finance, wealth management, financial institutions, and compliance, and you will also be in liaison with clients, external counsel, and Swiss authorities when necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide legal advice and practical guidance to various bank departments on Swiss and international legal issues.
• Draft, review, and negotiate banking agreements, security documents, and other legal documents, particularly in relation to commodities trade finance and wealth management.
• Support the bank on legal matters involving clients, counterparties, authorities, courts, and bankruptcy offices.
• Advise on client succession and inheritance-related matters.
• Review internal policies, directives, and standard documents to ensure they remain compliant with applicable legislation.
• Monitor developments in Swiss banking legislation and regulation and advise the Head of Legal & Compliance on their impact for the bank.
• Collaborate with compliance on cross-cutting legal and regulatory issues.
• Coordinate external lawyers for specialized advice, litigation, and disputes when necessary.
• Conduct legal research and prepare opinions, reports, and other legal documents.
• Provide legal and regulatory training to colleagues where appropriate.
• Act as a deputy to the Head of Legal & Compliance on legal matters when required.

Profile Sought ##

Profile:

• Qualified lawyer in Switzerland, ideally with Brevet d'avocat
• Proven experience in Swiss banking law
• Experience in commodities trade finance indispensable
• Good understanding of Swiss banking regulations and associated regulatory/compliance issues
• Strong legal drafting, research, and analysis skills
• Experience in reviewing and negotiating commercial and banking documents
• Pragmatic, business-oriented approach with good judgment
• Well-organized and able to manage multiple files and deadlines
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Written and oral proficiency in French and English
• Swiss resident
