Detention Officer - Detention Officer

Holders must specifically enforce the regulations and instructions in force and will be responsible for the day and night surveillance and control of detained persons. Detention officers work in an environment of deprivation of liberty, in which contacts with the outside world are limited. They must be able to work in a team and perform their activities with irregular schedules. They operate with an esprit de corps and have rich and varied human contacts.

Special skills:
Holders must possess human and interpersonal skills and be able to endure, in certain circumstances, a working climate that can be oppressive.

Required training and/or years of experience:
Candidates must hold a CFC or training deemed equivalent. Upon their engagement, holders must follow the Geneva cantonal training for one year, then the training provided by the Swiss training center for prison staff in order to obtain the federal certificate of detention officer.
After successfully completing the Geneva cantonal training, trainees are then hired and assigned to various establishments in the canton

Specific knowledge:
For sentence enforcement establishments, professional knowledge and professional experience are required in the context of workshop supervision (e.g. bakery, maintenance, carpentry, green space management, painting, etc). Knowledge of foreign languages is an asset.
