Java Backend Engineer (Rail Control Systems)

• IT - Software Engineering • Bern • Contracting • Part-time, 80-100% • 01.09.2026 - 31.12.2027 (with option for extension) • Java, Spring Boot, SQL, Hibernate Your tasks: • Together with your team, you design and develop central components of a modern Rail Control System and ensure their stability and operational reliability • You analyze technical malfunctions in the production environment and actively work on sustainable solutions to optimize the system landscape • You implement new features in the backend - from analysis to implementation through to testing and introduction into production operation • You work continuously on improving the availability, performance, scalability, and resource efficiency of the applications • You create and maintain technical documentation and contribute to sustainable knowledge preservation within the team • You operate in a scaled agile environment and take on tasks in areas such as business analysis, quality assurance, or testing depending on need • You work closely with specialist departments and other development teams and contribute to the further development of mission-critical systems for the capacity control of rail traffic • You support the continuous modernization of an established system landscape that has been successfully used for many years   Your profile: • Several years of practical experience (at least 4 years) in Java backend development, ideally in large projects with high-availability and mission-critical applications • Completed higher professional education (HF), part-time further training, or equivalent qualification (e.g., Bachelor or DAS) • Very good knowledge of Java 21, Spring Boot, SQL and Hibernate • Experience in cloud-native software development with technologies such as OpenShift, Docker, Helm and Git • Practice in the development of messaging and event-driven architectures • Quick comprehension and enjoyment in understanding complex system landscapes and technical contexts • Independent, analytical and structured way of working with high personal responsibility • Strong team and communication skills as well as enjoyment in working with different stakeholders • Very good German skills (at least C1) as well as good English skills
