The Federal Office of Justice is the legal center of excellence of the Confederation. It develops draft legislative acts in the areas of public law, private law, and criminal law and ensures the legislative support of normative projects emanating from the entire federal administration; it is also active at the international level.
It is responsible for different databases, including that of the criminal record. The Swiss Criminal Record unit works in an innovative way, using largely automated processes.
