Medical Coder

The Spitalverbund Appenzell Ausserrhoden with the Akutspital Herisau and the Psychiatrisches Zentrum AR in Herisau ensures the expanded basic medical care for the population in the Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden and is also the first point of contact for a large part of the population in the surrounding region. Both locations are relevant for care for the Canton and beyond.

In the Finance Department under the leadership of Mr. Patrick Bürli, Mr. Thorsten Veldenzer is looking for a committed and experienced personality in the area of Medical Controlling & Coding who contributes to high-quality medical coding with expertise, care, and enjoyment of collaboration.

Your Tasks

• You independently code the diagnoses and treatments of our inpatient cases according to the applicable Swiss coding guidelines and SwissDRG.
• You check medical documentation, recognize relevant connections, and ensure complete, correct, and traceable coding.
• You work closely with the medical staff, nursing, and other specialist departments and support them with questions regarding medical documentation and coding.
• You review the coding quality and contribute your experience and ideas to the continuous improvement of our processes.
• With your work, you make an important contribution to the quality of our medical performance data and to appropriate hospital financing.

Your Profile

• You have several years of professional experience in medical coding according to SwissDRG, ideally with a federal certificate as Medizinische Kodiererin / Medizinischer Kodierer.
• You have a basic medical education, for example in nursing, as a doctor, or in a comparable health profession.
• You possess a good understanding of medical contexts and can understand complex disease courses based on the documentation.
• You work independently, carefully, and in a structured manner and value high coding quality.
• You are an open, reliable, and team-oriented personality who appreciates professional exchange.
