Start date: 1 January 2027 or date to be agreed Workplace: Berne We are looking for an experienced person with initiative and strong leadership qualities for the Office for Secondary Schools and Vocational Training of the Directorate of Education and Culture. The Office for Secondary Schools and Vocational Training creates the optimal framework conditions for comprehensive education. You will ensure the technical and personnel management of the office and develop viable solutions that enjoy broad consensus for vocational training and secondary school education. You distinguish yourself through your political sense, your strong communication skills, your ability to collaborate reliably with very diverse stakeholders, and your ability to effectively develop your network. Your tasks • In your capacity as head, you lead the Office for Secondary Schools and Vocational Training, which comprises approximately 350 employees • You personally lead ten managers, who are directly subordinate to you, and are responsible for the strategic and organizational orientation of the office as well as in terms of personnel • You also advise and support the director of education and culture and the secretary general on matters relating to education policy, strategic aspects, and technical issues • Within this demanding and varied function, you adapt training offers to the needs of society, the world of work, and higher education levels • You constantly develop the strategy in the areas of upper secondary II, higher vocational training, continuing education, and career guidance, and accompany major strategic projects • Furthermore, you lead the office in a spirit of respect and benevolence, strengthen collaboration within the office and with external partners, and create the necessary conditions so that the tasks entrusted to the office can be executed effectively without losing sight of the set objectives and solutions to be implemented • Finally, as a member of the executive committee of the Directorate of Education and Culture, you participate actively in the strategic development of the Directorate. Your profile • Holder of a tertiary level degree, you have completed additional training in personnel management and can justify several years of experience in management positions • In addition, you are capable of identifying issues related to education policy and master political processes. Even in difficult situations, you manage to maintain the overview, act thoughtfully, and demonstrate resilience • Furthermore, you know the Bernese educational landscape well, have led complex organizations and, ideally, have already worked in public administration.
