Introductory text
Are you attracted by a versatile laboratory function in which analytical methods, technical support of measurement infrastructure, and collaboration with researchers come together? In the research group "Dauerhaftigkeit von Werkstoffen" at ETH Zürich, you will ensure that modern experiments can be carried out reliably starting from 1 December 2026 or by arrangement, thereby making an important contribution to pioneering research in the field of material characterization, corrosion and electrochemistry. Look forward to an international environment, modern and versatile laboratory infrastructure, and the opportunity to support students and researchers in their daily work.

Project background
The research group "Dauerhaftigkeit von Werkstoffen" is anchored in the Institut für Baustoffe (IfB) of the Departement Bau, Umwelt und Geomatik (D-BAUG) of ETH Zürich and is therefore located at the interface of materials science and civil engineering. The research group's focal topics are the corrosion of steel in concrete or other media such as water or soil, with a special focus on the sustainability of construction materials. We operate a versatile laboratory infrastructure, including for sample preparation, chemical and electrochemical measurements, microscopy, spectroscopy, anaerobic tests, thermal analysis, as well as non-destructive testing. You train and supervise students in selected experimental methods (e.g., in chemical analysis) and promote their independent working.
You support researchers in the planning and implementation of experimental work.
You contribute your own ideas to the development and construction of measuring facilities, for example using 3D printing technologies.
You work closely with the Group Safety Representative and support inventory and safety management in the laboratory.
You continuously develop your specialist knowledge and acquire new analytical procedures and measurement methods.
You promote open, safe, and constructive cooperation in an international research environment.
Your profile
Completed training as a Chemielaborant:in (possibly Physiklaborant:in) or a comparable qualification with sound experience in the laboratory environment.
Experience in the areas of chemistry, electrochemistry, corrosion, materials technology, or related specialist fields.
Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of laboratory and measuring devices, such as gloveboxes, pH meters, or electrochemical measurement systems.
Interest in the construction of measuring facilities (e.g., via 3D printing) and in learning new experimental and analytical methods.
Understanding of laboratory safety and responsible action in laboratory operations.
Strong organizational and planning skills as well as an independent and structured way of working.
Enjoyment of working with students, researchers, and technical staff in an intercultural environment.
Good English skills for daily collaboration in a predominantly English-speaking research group.
