Your Impact as Senior Project Engineer - Japan:

We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer, specialized in BESS projects, to manage, optimize design, and lead the execution of Energy Vault BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) projects in Japan. In this role, you will collaborate with project managers, construction managers, clients, external suppliers, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ), and consultants. As we grow rapidly and secure more contracts globally, you will help document and build scalable processes, technologies, and products. Energy Vault operates both as an independent power producer (IPP) and as an integrator for client projects.

We are aiming for a Senior Project Engineer, but for an excellent candidate with more experience, we are open to a Principal Project Engineer or Project Manager.

Your Mission:

• Be responsible for project execution, which requires a deep understanding of scope, schedule, stakeholders, and the coordination of all parties involved.
• Identify gaps in scope and responsibilities and work with stakeholders to resolve them to ensure project success. This will require a comprehensive understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, and permitting processes.
• Apply engineering principles and consult subject matter experts, if necessary, to identify issues and drive solutions on projects.
• Specify equipment for projects as needed, including transformers, switchgear, protection solutions, etc.
• Interface with internal stakeholders (project managers, product engineers, sales team) and external stakeholders (utilities, authorities having jurisdiction, contractors, end customers) to ensure consistent communication.
• Review project design documents, including single-line diagrams, communication diagrams, layouts, equipment test reports, etc.
• Plan and lead the commissioning of BESS projects.
• Provide constructive feedback to improve internal processes and the product.

Your Profile:

• The candidate must be bilingual in Japanese and English
• The candidate must have current work rights in Japan.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering (electrical or electrical systems engineering) or equivalent experience
• More than 10 years of experience in leading project design, preferably in the construction of large power plants or photovoltaic projects or other industrial-scale energy projects
• More than 5 years of experience in BESS projects, preferably
• More than 3 years of experience in EPC projects
• Knowledge of electrical standards relevant to BESS projects in Japan
• PE certification or equivalent, preferred
• Familiarity with permitting processes with local authorities
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Availability for domestic and international travel, up to 30 %
• Comfortable in fast-paced and high-growth environments
