NMS Bern is a unique nationwide, privately organized, non-profit educational institution with a 175-year tradition, working closely with cantonal institutions. Further details can be found on our homepage. School Social Worker for our Secondary Level II We are looking for as of 01. December 2026 or by arrangement a school social worker for our Secondary Level II: specialized middle school and gymnasium (50%) Your tasks You advise and accompany learners of the specialized middle school and the gymnasium regarding psychosocial issues – at a low threshold, confidentially, and at eye level. You work closely with the school management, case management, and school psychology and actively participate in the further development of cooperation structures. You intervene in cooperation with the rectorate at the class and group level: you moderate conflicts, accompany group dynamic processes, and carry out preventive measures. You support and relieve (class) teachers: you advise them in case of special needs, stand by them with advice in challenging situations, and thus promote their action competence in dealing with psychosocial challenges in the medium and long term. You recognize dangers early, initiate suitable measures in cooperation with the rectorate, our school psychology, and if necessary with our case management when required, and ensure professional handling of child and adult protection issues. Coordinated with the rectorate, you advise and accompany parents as well as other contact persons of the learners and network with suitable internal and external specialist agencies if necessary. You document counseling processes carefully and in compliance with data protection, thereby contributing to the high-quality accompaniment of our learners within a multi-professional team and to internal communication within the specialist and management team. As a newly created position at the Matura schools of NMS Bern, you actively help shape the structures and processes of school social work at this level and bring your professional perspective into school development. You regularly participate in various quality assurance and development formats (intervision, supervision, case discussions, further training). Your profile You have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work (FH/Uni) with a focus on social work or social pedagogy, as well as at least one CAS in school social work. You bring several years of professional experience in school social work or a related counseling field; experience at Secondary Level II is an advantage. You are familiar with individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, as well as preventive formats and have experience in the moderation of conflicts and group dynamic processes. You are a team player and enjoy working with the specialist team, the school management, and the teachers – and you value this close involvement as part of your professional identity. You are a resilient, empathetic, and communicative personality with high social competence who maintains an overview in a lively school environment. You communicate stylistically confident in German (spoken and written); knowledge of another national language is an advantage.
