Primary school director

Mandatory criteria: Candidates must hold the Certificat complémentaire en enseignement primaire (CCEP) issued by the Institut universitaire de formation des enseignants (IUFE) or an equivalent master's level pedagogical training; attest to knowledge of the most recent teaching methods and means; demonstrate a strong interest in innovation, pedagogical trends, and the overall educational project of the school. Your mission ​The Direction générale de l'enseignement obligatoire (DGEO) has the mission of steering compulsory education by placing teaching and student monitoring at the center of its approach. This mission is deployed with the support of human resources, finance, and school system organization and planning services. In this context, the DGEO steers and coordinates the activities of 60 primary establishments and 19 cycles d'orientation, for more than 54'000 students. For the 2026 start of school, the DGEO is looking for a director of a school establishment welcoming between 400 and 1200 students from 1P to 8P and comprising between 1 and 5 schools. The primary school director is responsible for the conditions of effective and equitable student training, for the primary years of compulsory schooling, in the various schools which she or he directs. The main mission of a primary school director consists, within the framework of the school policy of the DGEO and the DIP, in implementing and assuming the pedagogical steering of their establishment and the quality of teaching and assessment in connection with cantonal requirements; assuming responsibility for the schooling and safety of students and creating and developing conditions favorable to a good school climate; assuming the management of human resources (between 40 to 80 employees) and the administrative and financial management of the establishment; developing a collaboration policy and a communication strategy within the establishment, as well as with all partners with whom she or he represents their establishment. Profile: Acute sense of responsibility and public service and perfect knowledge of the Geneva teaching and training system. Great ease in communication and negotiation, sharp interpersonal skills and ability to supervise and motivate a team. Spirit of initiative and strong capacity for adaptation and change management. Proven leadership and decision-making skills and abilities for analysis, synthesis, organization and planning. Strong skills in administrative management and forecasting management. Mastery of common IT tools, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook The school director has the obligation to obtain, during the first 3 years of their term of office, the certificate of advanced studies (CAS) in Training in the direction of a training institution. Professional experience of at least 10 years including 5 years in the field of teaching and 3 years in a position of responsibility within a management team. ​Observations Vacations (6 weeks) must be taken during school holiday periods.
