Your Tasks

• Further development, improvement, and operation of the NZZ content recommendation systems - from prototyping to productive use on Google Cloud / Vertex AI
• Responsibility and continuous optimization of ML pipelines for real-time and batch recommendation applications (e.g., article recommendations, personalized newsletters, churn prediction)
• Implementation of MLOps best practices: versioning of data, models, and code; CI/CD; automated monitoring of model performance and data drift
• Planning and evaluation of A/B tests as well as derivation of concrete product improvements in close cooperation with product, marketing, and editorial
• Conducting exploratory data analyses and comprehensible preparation of results for technical and non-technical stakeholders (especially editorial)
• Observation of new methods, tools, and research results in the field of Recommender Systems and NLP and contributing pragmatic ideas to their application

Your Profile

• Completed Master's degree in a quantitative field (mathematics, computer science, statistics, engineering, or similar)
• 2-4 years of professional experience in Data Science or ML Engineering, ideally with a focus on recommendation or ranking systems
• Profound Python knowledge and practical experience with ML libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch; knowledge of pandas and SQL
• Practical experience with Google Cloud Platform - especially Vertex AI (training, Model Registry, online/batch prediction) is a clear advantage
• Experience with MLOps tooling (experiment tracking, model monitoring, CI/CD pipelines) and big data frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, BigQuery, or Snowflake)
• Good data engineering experience is an advantage (Airflow, Cloud Compose, dbt, etc.)
• Good English and very good German skills; ability to communicate data-based insights comprehensibly
• Curious, pragmatic, and team-oriented personality with joy in solving problems from beginning to end
