The city of Solothurn is reappointing its urban planning department. The local planning revision is nearing completion, and land-use planning and major urban development projects are upcoming. The goal is to communicate the set objectives externally, demand them consistently, and implement them. In addition to being a city of culture, Solothurn is also an energy city and is committed to sustainable spatial and environmental planning. For the Urban Planning / Environment / Energy area within the Bau und Umwelt department, we are looking for an engaged personality as of immediately or by arrangement as

Tasks

• Technical and personnel leadership of the Urban Planning / Environment / Energy area.
• Independent management of demanding planning procedures, in particular land-use, development, and design plans, as well as superior and cantonal planning.
• Technical responsibility for the topics of environment and energy. Enforcement is partially carried out via external mandates, which you define, commission, manage, and control.
• Representation of the area's business in political authorities and specialist commissions.
• Preparation of motions, statements, and decision-making bases for political bodies.
• Financial plan, budget, and annual report of the area.
• Representation of the city's interests towards developers, property owners, external planners, and cantonal authorities.

Expectations

• Completed studies as a dipl. Architekt/in ETH or Architekt/in HTL / FH with NDS in Raumplanung or an equivalent education with corresponding experience.
• Several years of practice in leading formal planning procedures, ideally in a municipal or cantonal environment.
• Leadership experience is an advantage, in any case the willingness to take responsibility for an area.
• A sense for political processes and workflows in a public administration as well as experience in dealing with political bodies.
• Understanding of planning law, ecological, and economic contexts.
• Strong communication skills, stylistically confident German in speaking and writing, and a confident appearance towards authorities and private individuals.
• Structured, independent way of working and conceptual thinking.
