Sustainability Internship Topic – Supporting employees in the face of artificial intelligence

Reporting to the Wavestone Geneva office, this internship aims to analyze and structure best practices to support employees in adopting artificial intelligence, from a human, organizational, and sustainable perspective.

This internship is part of an applied research logic, at the interface between:

• organizational transformation,
• social issues related to digital technology,
• change management and corporate responsibility.

It aims to produce deliverables that can be used in consulting for large organizations, while providing a solid foundation for an academic end-of-studies project.

Internship topic: How to support employees in the adoption of artificial intelligence?

The work may notably focus on:

• Analyzing the impacts of AI on work, roles, skills, and collectives;
• Factors for acceptance and rejection of AI by employees;
• Issues of trust, ethics, transparency, and explainability in AI uses;
• Evaluation of existing support mechanisms (training, acculturation, communication, co-construction, governance);
• Case studies of concrete organizations integrating AI into their practices;
• Formulating support levers and action scenarios promoting responsible, inclusive, and sustainable adoption of AI.

The topic will approach AI as a socio-technical fact, integrating human, organizational, cultural, and managerial dimensions, and not as a simple technology.

This topic is part of the work of our Responsible AI team which supports organizations in the adoption of trustworthy and sustainable AI.

1. Work to be carried out

Preparatory work:

The beginning of the internship will be marked by a scoping note aiming to precisely define the outlines of the study and the research problem(s), drawing on the existing market and subject knowledge provided by Wavestone.

Furthermore, the scoping note aims to align the expectations of the Wavestone firm and the university institution regarding the internship deliverable(s).

Study work:

Working autonomously on your topic, with the support of an experienced consultant and the Responsible AI team, you will be required to:

• Conduct a literature review (AI, work, change, social sciences, management);
• Conduct internal interviews (Wavestone experts) and external interviews (clients, change agents, managers, employees);
• Analyze real organizational situations;
• Build a structured analysis framework (levers, barriers, key success factors, trade-offs, maturity grid, etc.);
• Develop a synthesis deliverable valuable for the firm and its clients (report, article, presentation material, internal or external publication);
• Present the study results to the Sustainability team.

The intern will benefit from close supervision, combining consulting expertise and structured methodology.

You will also have the opportunity to develop your expertise by following training sessions provided by our consultants or partners, as well as through self-training via access to numerous e-learning platforms & Moocs.

You will thus be a central actor in the development of our Sustainability offering, particularly regarding Responsible AI, and will participate in defining responses to our clients' next challenges in terms of sustainability.

1. Contributions to the consulting firm

As a trainee consultant, you will also be required to contribute to the operational missions of our clients.

The internship will offer exposure to complex ecosystems, involving large international companies, technological players, sustainability experts, and European and international regulatory constraints.

We also give you the opportunity to participate actively in the internal life of the firm through:

• Supporting the development of our Sustainability expertise: contribution to prospecting actions and the development of commercial proposals;
• Production of radars and benchmarks aimed at better understanding the responsible digital ecosystem;
• Production of materials aimed at acculturating and initiating other firm employees to the concepts of responsible digital technology;
• Participation in company events: afterworks, organized recreational activities and outings, meetings with market players, etc.

All produced deliverables are intended to provide decision-making tools for general management, CIOs, and Sustainability departments in their investment choices and management of digital transformations.

A student within a major engineering school, management school, or a large university, you are attracted to consulting and business transformation issues.

You are convinced of the necessity of addressing sustainability issues and the preponderant role of companies. You have an appetite for subjects related to management, digital, and CSR.

Ideally, your curriculum includes a specialization, for example, in social sciences, management, sustainability, innovation, or organizational change.
