With around 4000 students, over 40 professorships, and 850 employees, the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering (D-MAVT) of ETH Zürich is the largest department at ETH. To support our team, we are looking for an engaged Head of Study Administration (m/f/d) with a workload of 100%, starting immediately or by arrangement as part of a succession plan.

Job Description ##

The tasks include the following responsibilities:

Head of Study Administration

• Leadership and further development of the teaching administration team at D-MAVT (5 employees)
• Overall responsibility for study and doctoral administration (BSc, MSc, doctorate, continuing education)

Study Coordination

• Conception, introduction, and strategic further development of the study programs (BSc, MSc, doctorate)
• Support for the Study Directorate and the Doctoral Officer in regulations and guideline work
• Analysis and preparation of key figures in the teaching area

Study Advising

• Advising in complex study situations and coordination of study-related concerns
• Central contact person for students, doctoral students, and lecturers, as well as the Rectorate, regarding teaching matters
• Conception and implementation of information and introductory events
• First point of contact for students and doctoral students for support in crisis situations and conflict management
• Maintenance and further development of international partnerships (mobility / exchange programs)
• Advising and support for incoming and outgoing students

Profile ##

We are looking for a strategically thinking and operationally strong personality for a key role at the interface of teaching, administration, and academic governance. The position combines leadership responsibility, study program development, as well as complex coordination and advisory tasks in a university environment.

• You possess strong communication and negotiation skills, which enable you to act decisively in a demanding environment with different hierarchical levels, set clear boundaries, and moderate consensus-oriented solutions.
• The ideal candidate holds a completed doctorate, preferably in a technical-scientific or related field.
• An in-depth understanding of academic structures, particularly in the area of teaching (BSc, MSc, doctorate), is required.
• Several years of relevant professional experience in a comparable function within academia is required.
• The sought person brings demonstrable leadership experience and is capable of leading and further developing a team in a goal-oriented manner.
