<<Execution according to measure>> is our motto at the Thorberg correctional facility. We execute sanctions for 170 men from over 40 nations in closed custody. Our 140 employees are committed daily to the reintegration of offenders into society and thus make an important contribution to public safety. In eleven workshops, we lead and promote the inmates according to work-agogic principles. Our programs in the areas of work, therapy, education, sport, and leisure are consistently aimed at risk reduction and the social integration of the admitted persons.

Your tasks

• You ensure the socio-pedagogical daily routine and an orderly operation on the inmates' residential floor.
• As a reference person, you are the first point of contact for the inmates assigned to you.
• Within the framework of individual execution plans, you work with promotion goals in the area of living.
• You resolve questions and concerns of the inmates as directly as possible.
• You mediate in conflicts and search for pragmatic solutions.
• You work in an interdisciplinary team with other reference persons, social workers, and the master craftsmen and exchange information regularly with representatives of other disciplines.
• You work in the early or late shift and take on weekend services on a regular basis.

Your profile

• You have completed training in (social) pedagogy, social work, nursing, or a related field, or you are an experienced specialist in correctional services with a federal diploma.
• If you do not already have the necessary training, you are willing to complete it alongside your professional activities.
• Working with people in difficult life situations interests and motivates you.
• You act professionally in the tension between closeness and distance.
• You are a very resilient, stable, and independent personality.
• You remain calm even in hectic situations and know how to assert yourself.
• You enjoy working with people from different cultures.
• You communicate in German orally and in writing with stylistic confidence. In addition, you have good oral French and/or English skills. If you speak other foreign languages, this will be very helpful in your daily professional life.
• You master the use of standard ICT programs without problems.

A non-routine, independent activity awaits you in a correctional facility, where you will help shape the future. You will acquire the necessary execution knowledge at the Swiss Competence Center for Correctional Services or at the ZHAW. Your workplace is located in a historically significant building in a unique natural landscape.

About the Office for Correctional Services

The Office for Correctional Services (AJV) is responsible for the open and closed execution of sentences and measures for adults and young people within the Security Directorate of the Canton of Bern (SID), with around 1000 employees. To fulfill this task, the office has four concordat correctional facilities, four regional prisons, the detention station at the Inselspital, the detention management center, as well as probation and execution services at its disposal.
