It elaborates legislative acts in the fields of civil law, criminal law, enforcement and bankruptcy, private international law as well as in certain areas of constitutional and administrative law. It offers advice to federal departments and offices for all legislative activities and drafts opinions. The office also exercises high supervision in the context of the enforcement of penalties and measures. It also maintains the Swiss criminal record. The Enforcement of Penalties and Measures Sector is responsible for the implementation of the federal law on the services of the Confederation in the field of enforcement of penalties and measures. It performs various tasks in collaboration with the Cantons, grants subsidies for the construction, renovation and expansion of facilities for the enforcement of penalties and measures for adults, young adults, youths and children. Based on certain recognition criteria, it also pays operating subsidies to educational and enforcement of measures institutions for young adults.
