ETH Zürich is looking for a strong leader for the position of Vice President for Infrastructure and Sustainability (VPIN) - a role that combines strategic leadership, operational excellence, and the responsibility to further develop the physical, digital, and organizational foundations for research, teaching, and innovation at a world-class level. Job Description ## As Vice President for Infrastructure and Sustainability, you are a member of the Executive Board and lead a wide-ranging portfolio that includes infrastructure, real estate, facility management, energy management, sustainability, security, campus services, ICT management, and the management of knowledge resources. Your mission is to ensure that ETH Zürich possesses the reliable, secure, sustainable, and future-oriented infrastructural foundations that enable excellence in research, teaching, knowledge transfer, and administration. This includes the strategic further development of the university's real estate portfolio, digital infrastructure, campus operations, the sustainability agenda, and central services. You report directly to the President and contribute to the continuous development of ETH Zürich through your core tasks. Furthermore, you represent the VPIN portfolio in important interactions with the ETH Board, authorities and political bodies, as well as the ETH community. Main Responsibilities: • Leadership of the Infrastructure and Sustainability portfolio as Vice President. • Development and implementation of long-term strategies for campus, real estate, IT, infrastructure systems, sustainability, and service functions of ETH Zürich. • Ensuring high-quality, reliable, secure, and sustainable infrastructure and service offerings for the academic and administrative community of ETH Zürich. • Responsibility for significant investment programs, construction and infrastructure projects, as well as sustainability measures. • Strengthening operational excellence, efficiency, and long-term cost awareness throughout the portfolio. • Integration of different expert functions into a coherent, user-oriented service organization. • Promoting collaboration between departments, central services, academic units, external partners, and public stakeholders. • Preparation and representation of strategic decisions within the Executive Board as well as towards the ETH Board. • Further development of the leadership culture, which is characterized by trust, sense of responsibility, collaboration, and a clear institutional mandate. Profile ## We are looking for a leadership personality with a multifaceted background of experience and a proven ability to successfully lead complex organizations. Particularly relevant are experiences in technology-driven, infrastructure-intensive, academic, and industrial environments in which long-term development, service orientation, and operational excellence are of central importance. Decisive is the ability to bring together different perspectives and thereby unfold a sustainable impact for research, teaching, and innovation. You bring with you: • Several years of leadership experience at executive level in industrial, technology-driven, or academic organizations and in one or more of the following areas: Operations, real estate, infrastructure, IT, corporate services, ESG, or complex service organizations. • Proven experience in leading large organizations, significant budgets, and multidisciplinary teams. • Experience in leading complex transformation, innovation, infrastructure, or operational excellence programs. • The ability to assess quality, risks, investment priorities, and long-term cost developments in a balanced and institutionally responsible manner. • A strong understanding of expert organizations as well as the ability to act effectively in an academic, public, and heavily stakeholder-driven environment. • A university degree, preferably a doctorate. • German and English; French is an advantage.
