Principal EHS Specialist (f/m/d) # About the role ## As a Principal EHS Specialist (f/m/d), you will support the Bern site in all central topics of health, safety, and environmental management. You bring sound EHS technical expertise, strong shopfloor proximity, and the ability to coach and accompany managers, teams, and EHS colleagues in their development. In doing so, you combine operational presence with strategic thinking and make a significant contribution to the further development of our health, safety, and environmental culture. This role is aimed at experienced EHS professionals who want to use their expertise not only to solve problems but also to actively contribute to the further development of people, teams, and organizations. Main tasks and responsibilities # Coaching, Mentoring and Culture Development ## • Coach and sparring partner for managers, employees, and EHS professionals • Support the professional development of EHS team members • Promotion of an open learning, feedback, and safety culture • Communication of best practices and lessons learned • Support of managers in exercising their EHS responsibility • Promotion of ownership and a sustainable safety culture at all levels • Contribution to the further development of the EHS organization at the site ## Presence in the operation and support of the shopfloor ## • Regular presence in production, technology, laboratories, logistics, and support areas • Conducting safety, health, and environmental walks • Support of the Tier meeting structure (Tier 1 to Tier 3) • Identification of improvement opportunities in daily operations • Support of teams in the implementation of effective protective measures • Promotion of proactive risk and safety perception ## Health protection and Occupational Health ## • Identification and assessment of health-relevant risks • Support in topics such as ergonomics, exposure, noise, climate, and mental health • Cooperation with medical services and external specialist agencies • Support of health monitoring programs • Development and implementation of suitable prevention measures • Promotion of health-promoting workplaces and wellbeing initiatives ## Environmental Management ## • Support and further development of environmental management processes • Participation in topics such as: • Waste management • Emission control • Energy efficiency • Wastewater • Hazardous substances management • Resource management • Sustainability initiatives • Support of ISO-14001 compliant processes • Conducting environmental walks • Support of environmental audits and authority inspections ## Hazard identification and prevention ## • Systematic identification of health, safety, and environmental risks • Conducting hazard assessments and task risk assessments • Support in the assessment and prioritization of risks • Verification of the effectiveness of existing protective measures • Support in the development of sustainable prevention measures • Maintenance of relevant EHS risk registers • Moderation of more complex risk analyses as required ## Incident Investigation and Continuous Improvement ## • Leading or supporting investigations of EHS incidents, pSIFs, and environmental events • Application of structured investigation methods such as ICAM, RCA, or TapRooT • Identification of sustainable improvement measures • Integration of lessons learned into processes, standards, and training • Promotion of an open and learning-oriented error culture ## Systems Thinking and EHS Governance ## • Consideration of connections between people, technology, organization, and environment • Contribution to the further development of EHS processes and standards • Participation in site-wide improvement programs and strategic initiatives • Development of sustainable solutions for root cause elimination • Support of the EHS operating model and the EHS governance # Requirements and Qualifications # ## Professional Experience ## • At least 7 years of professional experience in the field of Environment, Health & Safety • Experience in regulated industries such as pharma, biotech, or chemistry is an advantage • Experience in the guidance, development, or professional support of employees and managers • Experience in the implementation of EHS programs and improvement initiatives • Demonstrable ability to exert influence and successfully accompany changes ## Education ## Higher educational degree, for example: • MSc / MAS Safety Engineering • MSc Environmental Technology • MSc Process Engineering • MSc Life Sciences • Scientific studies or comparable field of study Further training in the field of Occupational Health, environmental management, coaching, or leadership is an advantage. ## Technical Competencies ## • Very good knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 • Experience in hazard identification and risk assessment • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental management • Experience in handling hazardous substances and regulatory requirements • Knowledge of EHS management systems, reporting, and risk management tools • Experience with methods such as HAZOP, FMEA, or Bow Tie is an advantage ## Personal Competencies ## • Strong communication and moderation skills • Ability to build trust and develop sustainable relationships • Enjoyment of coaching, knowledge transfer, and collaboration • Convincing appearance at shopfloor and management levels • High degree of personal responsibility and solution orientation • Ability to drive changes constructively • Team orientation and strong stakeholder competence ## Languages ## • German: business fluent • English: very good CSL Behring is a global biotherapeutics leader driven by our promise to save lives.
